About this Species

The salmon shark or porbeagle shark (Lamna ditropis) is a species of shark in the family Lamnidae. It is a predator of the salmon from which it takes its name. It can reach 3 meters in length, it is able to swim at more than 50km/h. The salmon shark has the ability to withstand very cold temperatures like those in Alaska where, in winter, the water temperature varies between 2 and 8°C. This faculty results from a specific vascular system.
